UK Sport provide strategic investment enabling Great Britain’s world-class athletes to achieve their full potential. Their Elite Programme aims to enhance and develop current world class coaches working within the British system.
Through UK Sport’s procurement process we were awarded the opportunity to scope, design and deliver a journal based platform, including a fully-featured offline-capable mobile app with associated server-side web system. The platform allows enrolled coaches to securely communicate with their mentors, maintains a historic record of progress, and provides a rich seam of data to be analysed by both the mentors and the team at UK Sport who head the programme.
No two coaches are the same, and it was important we support the variety of ways a user might want to communicate with their mentor - the mobile app therefore integrates fully with the user's device to allow upload of photos, videos and voice recordings for those times when written notes are simply not enough.
Notifications help parties keep in touch and offline capabilities allow for use on the move - elite coaches never stop, and it's essential they are not kept waiting for a network connection before recording their journal entries while fresh in the mind. The app is fully-functional when offline, and will discretely sync data with the live server when possible. We never treat security as an afterthought - app data is securely encrypted on the device, and synchronised with the website via a secure web API.
The app is available for both iOS and Android devices. Coaches, their mentors and administrators can access extended functionality via the fully responsive and mobile-friendly website.
The platform is built on our full-stack Sitesuma Framework, and further utilises Cordova and Telerik build services to provide a robust and stable mobile app development environment.
